Iowa collectors have a few registration options for older vehicles, and many assume an antique plate comes with the same rules as a classic car insurance policy. In Iowa, that isn’t always the case. The registration rules and your policy’s usage rules are two separate things, and the stricter one is often your insurance.<\/p>\n
Under Iowa Code \u00a7 321.115, a motor vehicle that is 25 years old or older may be registered as an antique vehicle. Owners can also display authentic Iowa plates from the vehicle’s model year, as long as the current plates and registration card are carried in the vehicle and available if an officer asks.<\/p>\n
Iowa also offers a “limited use” registration for certain older trucks, truck tractors, road tractors, and motor homes used only for exhibition or educational purposes.<\/p>\n
